Deborah Brown

b. 1955, California

 

Deborah Brown is a fifth-generation Californian who has lived and worked in New York since 1982. She  received a BA summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Yale University and an MFA from Indiana University. Her work draws inspiration from her walks around New York City, especially East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where her studio is located. Brown has been a tenured professor at Carleton College and a visiting artist and lecturer at Penn State University, Hunter College, Pace University,  Columbia University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Yale University and Art Omi. 

Her work is included in museum and private collections around the world, including the ICA, Miami, and the Portland  Museum of Art, Portland, Maine.
